NSPCC - Net Aware
How I built an information hub for parents.
About
The NSPCC invited Beyond to help design and develop an online information hub for parents to learn more about the various social media platforms their kids use.
Build
The backend was built with Python, and Wagtail CMS was used to manage content. The main database was PostgreSQL, and it was hosted in AWS. The UI was developed using Angular and SCSS.
Role
- Lead Backend Developer
- Provided estimates, scoping and technical oversight
Challenges
I can’t think of big challenges in this project, but I introduced a new CMS (Wagtail CMS) for content entry that would be the first time we used it for a project. The good things about Wagtail CMS were the pretty admin UI, and how easy was to manage content. Something new in the Python/Django world.
Learnings
Working on this project, which helps parents (social cause), made me enjoy this project much more than other projects related to Ads/Marketing.
Results
- More than 50 social networks added to the Hub
- Parents loved the information provided by the Hub
- Content editors liked the admin UI
- Wagtail CMS became the default CMS choice for Beyond
